We’re so excited to be growing our team at Expanding Capital and seeking a Partner to help us find new investment opportunities, lead the investment on behalf of the firm and propel our portfolio.

About us

Expanding Capital is a growth-stage venture capital fund that invested in breakthrough companies like Coinbase, Clover Health, Astra Rockets, Classpass, Bolt, Cameo, Roofstock, mParticle, EasyPost and many other unicorns.

We’re sector-agnostic and seek investments across any sector. That’s because we have the conviction that the best companies emerge at the intersection of multiple technologies being utilized to attack persistent challenges. We’re strongest in B2B/Saas, consumer tech, and eCommerce enablers.

One of our competitive advantages is our international scope and presence. Expanding Capital is backed by institutional capital and titans of industry from Brazil and South America. To help portfolio companies, we provide strategic assets, introductions and help our portfolio grow in the emerging LatAm region.

What we’re looking for in a Partner

We’re a start-up ourselves and on track to build a multi-generational, international firm. We run lean, we’re fast-paced, and a specialized Partnership of four. We’re eager to grow the team and make it five!

We do things differently at Expanding Capital. Some Partners primarily focus on diligence, research and deep-sectoral analysis. You, our new Partner, will primarily focus on finding new investment opportunities, leading the investment on behalf of the firm, and supporting our portfolio.

We’re looking for a hunter with a proven track record. You’ve A) invested in category-defining businesses B) grown a category-defining business or C) both.

For our Partner role, you might be a founder with a successful exit looking to move into venture capital full-time. You might be an early engineering lead ready to move to investing. You might be a Principal looking to accelerate your timeline to Partner with a dynamic team.

Essential job functions

Finding new investment opportunities

  • Work closely with our Research Partners to conduct industry deep-dive & landscape analysis
  • Utilize our proprietary quantitative data model to prospect target companies
  • Grow our network of top Series A to Series D funds in the ecosystem.
  • Amplify the Expanding Capital brand, presence, and influence by deepening our networks curating high-impact events and being a thought-leader through content writing.

Leading investments on behalf of the firm

  • Leverage your network and firm resources to get meetings with leadership at target companies
  • Support deal screening and evaluate investment opportunities
  • Conduct due diligence on prospective investments: assess decks, construct financial model, work with Research Partner to write an investment memo
  • Present and sell new opportunities internally to the Partners and active LP network
  • Close and win the most competitive deals

Supporting our portfolio

  • Be a special advisor to portfolio CEOs. They should think of you first when they need help.
  • Own critical relationships with portfolio companies and support management teams across a broad spectrum of needs which could mean as a Board Observer
  • Work with Partners and LPs to identify pain points and propel portfolio growth
  • Identify opportunities for follow-on funding


  • Seven to ten years of experience where you were a:
  • Founder or C-Level operator who raised multiple rounds of venture capital from top decile funds;
  • Venture capital investor with experience originating, ideally leading and executing investments;
  • Investment banker or private equity Principal or Senior Associate with deep knowledge of technology investing and understanding of the VC ecosystem;
  • Senior-level engineer, operator, product manager, or BizOps experience in a start-up where you were actively involved in fundraising efforts from seed to growth-stage;
  • Other

Education and Skills

  • A genuine passion for technology and entrepreneurship
  • College degree & MBA are preferred with an outstanding record academic achievement. Or you were a dropout that left to build or join a company.
  • Network of co-investors (Series A, Series B, Series C, Series D, Series E) from top decile funds
  • Experience with complex financial modeling including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow statements as well as quantitative market research (e.g. market sizing, valuation comps)
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work in an ambitious startup environment with a high degree of autonomy, self-motivation, and discipline
  • Comfort with working in a highly collaborative, global team
  • NYC, Austin, SF, LA or Miami Preferred. Remote ok!


  • Deep sector experience is a plus. That might mean deep tech, frontier tech, AI, logistics, biotech, Web3 #WAGMI or something else
  • Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese is a plus
  • Strong social game is a plus
